They are not overly great for humans either, there has been some research done that suggested prolonged over use can cause depression. Stay happy but stinky I say.

If I were you I'd get her to stop doing it anyway. Air freshners contain nothing but terrible chemicals that harm everything around it. Not what you want to pay for "nice smelling air". Besides, so long as you keep up your hygiene the house shouldn't smell foul.

hi. it says that they are harmful to aquatic life and can have long term damaging effects in the aquatic environment. my fish are still dropping off now and seem to have some problems with the nervous systems (occasional shaking hours before death) and eventually it seems to affect the swim bladder as they all end up at the same odd angle when they die and hang upside down just before. they are in completely fresh water in a new tank now as i had no other option but to try to remove the pollution. to my suprise, the fish that are coping the best are the cories!!

Awww sharkbait, so sorry to hear you are still losing fish What a nightmare for you.

I would have though the complete water change etc would have sorted it but it seems like it got into your fish and this is delayed effects? I wish there is something else to suggest to help but I can't think of anything.

As everyone has said, all forms of air fresheners and sprays using volatiles like phenols are extremely harmful to fish, reptiles and birds

As pet keepers the best thing we can do is just never use them!

I'm glad your mum has been understanding and supportive, I trust you guys will just open a window in future
