How massive? It must have been there for over a month. Unless the platy mother had a lot of proteins in her diet.

1.5 cm is around 2.5 months old, maybe 2 months old if well fed. My biggest fry (swordtail) is 2.5 months old and 1.5cm long.
So I guess your platy fry survived for a long time there. At this point I think other fish won't consider it a meal unless you have some really big adults in there. I only have teenage fish there and a catfish that could eat anything small but doesn't.

As Fishblast has said, the fry at 1.5cm is not a newborn, it is at least 4 weeks old. The smaller fry may well have come from the same female on her next drop. A typical time between drops is around 4 weeks more or less which matches your fish size difference.
+1 to Fishblast on this subject.
