My female guppy lost her male companion over 6 months ago but she still manages to pop out baby fry on a regular basis. She is the only guppy in the tank which she shares with catfish, danio's and white cloud mountain minnows. How can she keep popping these fry out without the male around... do they store the eggs and sperm for later... totally baffled by this but not complaining as she's had over 25 babies whilst on her own and it looks as though she's about ready to pop again!

;) Females guppies are able to produce fry several times without a male in the tank. Your guess was correct because their bodies are able to store it without mating again.

He is true the female holds sperm for atleast 3 months without a female to PIMP her.

I've read it's 6-8. :/ :dunno:

Anyways, they store packets of sperm for later use. That's why the fry don't always look like the dads because the females mated at the petstore.

Gee thanks for that info, lucky women aren't like Guppies or we wouldn't have such a need for men

Ya.... Guess that's sort of the downfall of the selective breeders, eh? Although if they were in the fish store with a bunch of sell-worthy males, I guess the babies would look ok anyway!!!! LOL!!!!

I have female guppies and they keep having babies without males. I have had 4 batches of fry without boys.
