Hi all
I have just bought a new tank to home a betta and was wondering if there were any algae eaters i could have in the same tank?
The tank works out at 9 gallons (35 litres).

I had a look around and it seem an apple snail might work but then i dont want the tank to get overrun by snails....

Thanks

Muzzy

oh what about otos? they seem small enough.... :S

nopey thats US gallons

oops.... must have clicked the wrong option. that means its about 7?

Cool about the otos!! :D i guessing now the tank has just shrunk i can maybe only have a couple?

tbh, it depends alot on filtration, if u have a decent filter u can get a few ottos in there with either a few females bettas, or one male :)

Hi, like yourself I am about to get a Betta.

There is a pinned posting at the head of this (betta) forum of frequently asked questions, read it it's great!

apple snails are not too good with bettas. If you get a vt male and they rest their butts near the snails the bettas can sometimes get their fins trapped under the snail and then the poor betta will suffocate. :good:

Hi all thanks for the replies!!

@dorsey
Yeah i did take a look at the stickies before posting and like you say they are very helpfull. I couldnt find anything about algae eater though but wouldnt suprise me if i just missed it.

@liz2
Thanks for that!! i was reluctant to get snails anyway but now after your post ill not bother at all.

@Phoenixbaby
The tank i bought was the Arcadia Arc Tank 35L which atm has the stock pump/filter in it. I have another pump/filter but i think its a little big for this tank.

Thanks again guys and girls

What shape is it? If you only got two or three otos, you could divide it and keep two bettas. That's quite a large tank for one (but he'll certainly appreciate it).

personaly i would shop around to find a stunning betta, 2-3 african dwarf frogs, maybe around 4 cherry shrimp, and some otos (although i would be tempted to put in 2 albino cory)

and an apple snail for good measure!

imo i wouldnt divide it, ur betta will appreciate the space more :good:

I have 3 of these tanks and i only have 1 male in each.. Don't have much of a problem with algae to be honest...
