Getting a 100 gallon, need stocking help!

dude, for get all the balas and junk, get yourself the albino oscar, and a nice big green sev! and a plec or catfish, THEN ur not overstocked (you could probably add some other fish)

Well I am almost positive I will be getting it. Just a matter of contacting the guy and driving up there to pick it up.

I don't like sevs.

Sevs are pretty and everything, but they just aren't really my thing. Although I did see a gold sev I really drooled over. Hmm...Would a gold sev and oscar get along well?

This is what i would do:

The albino oscar
A blood parrot
and a plec or other large catfish like a pictus

i heard jack dempsey mentioned and i would have to say it would probably end up killing your oscar, i've never came across an un pyschotic dempsey

get yourself a Zebra Oscar, imo their the best looking oscar of them all

clown loaches
black ghost knife

electric blue ahli
jaguar cichlid
blue acara
parrot cichlid
humpback puffer fish

Well Clown loaches grow about an inch every year so You would be waiting a really Long time until you could add that oscar. A good Catfish for An oscar would be 2 Lima Shovelnoses which you could fit in yur tank. I dont know a lot about the big eye cat but how big do they grow anything around 6" That isnt thin bodied should be ok.

What about pictus cats? I just don't want to spend a whole bunch of money on a large tank and have my oscar end up kicking everyone out of "his" tank you know what I mean? I'd really love to have a small school of balas but I would probably need a bigger tank.

Pictus's would be ok. I just suggested Lima's because they get to be about the same size as Oscars

I updated the front page on my two lists I am thinking about. I just don't know whether to get the gold sev or the 3 pictus cats. I need a catfish to clean up the oscar's messy eating so I think I will go with the pictus cats. Plus the guy who I am getting the tank from has 3 pictus cats that need a good home.

howa bout pictus's and the gold sev. I have about the same bioload as ypou in my 55 so you should be able to have both.

I think I have made up my mind on the oscar, the blood parrot, 4 silver dollars, and the 3 pictus cats. But who knows, I may go to the LFS and fall in love with an unexpected fish. I do that sometimes. Then I'll come home and research it, then go back out and buy him.
