are german rams aggressive when breeding?

They can become aggressive and territorial when breeding, although they will do very little harm to other fish.

i just got a male yesterday and looks lonely. just wanted to make sure my other fish would be safe if i got him a female.

There would be no guarantee that they will pair off, your male may even become aggressive towards your female.
Make sure you have plenty of plants and hiding places that the female can escape to.

are they hard to breed? this is my ram of any kind.

Not too difficult, provide caves and flat surfaces such as stones, rocks etc. for the female to lay her eggs on. It sometimes takes a few attempts as the egss either get eaten or can end up rotting.

i do have plenty of little caves and hiding places. this would be my first experience with egglayers. i have had good results with livebearers in this tank. except for my molly i lost this morning. that story is in the emergencies forum so i won't go into it here.
