I purchased two blue rams on tuesday which are doing extremely well my female has allready started laying eggs but since adding them in my two dalmation mollys have become very reclusive and taken to hiding which is very unlike them there normally swimming everywhere so i was just wondering if they are compatible with the rams wasnt told otherwise when purschased.

They're not compatible, Mollies need hard alkaline water, where as Rams require acidic water, temperament wise I'm unsure, it could just be that the Mollies are a bit shy.

were never shy before but have just introduced some kribensis on saturday too so maybe its them thats not compatible i have another tank i could put them into if this is the case but dont want to move them if there just getting aclimatised to the new fish

If the rams have layed eggs then they will become aggresive protecting them so that is why the mollies will not come out

New world and African cichlids shouldn't be kept together ideally, but i think they're both better off in a more acidic warmer climate so could be compatible if kept in a big enough tank. The Mollies are probably scared to death of them, and like said, the Rams will become extremely aggressive when/if the fry become free swimming so i would try and rehome them either in another tank or with someone else because with them being 'the soft option' they're probably going to get hammered by the Rams/Kribensis if they spawn.

will the sollies be allright with silver sharks cos i have them in my other tank

Bala Sharks? I hope it's a big tank as they grow quite big. Unsure as to whether they're compatible. I would say yes but don't quote me on it.

there in a 2 foot tank at the moment but will be going into my 3 foot one when i get a new tank

Please go to this link before you buy any more fish. I don't mean to sound nasty, but it appears that you're just buying fish that suit your fancy without doing any research first. Not fair to the fish, IMO.

well quite clearly i am doing research or i wouldnt be on here the fish shop i get them from is highly respected and normally give advise on what fish can and cant go together but i think the person who sold me the last few is new i appreciate the help but dont think your comment was helpful i will have 3 tanks soon so im sure ill be able to sort out compatibility issues and if not ill take them back to the shop!

Didn't mean to set you off, just concerned because this thread looks like you're picking them willy-nilly. Good job if you're doing the research, and shame on the LFS staffer. And of course, so many times when we see the Newbie status it's assumed you're new to the hobby as well.

Please do keep us posted on the progress!

didnt mean to come across rude im just a tad stressed over the whole situation at the mo was thinking off putting my sharks in the 3ft tank and moving them to my new 4ft tank when i get at as has been said it looks like they will need it. then moving my rams and kribensis into the 2 foot tank on there own or is that a bad idea? from what iv read on them the kribs are bottom cave dwellers and the rams mid tank any suggestions would be appreciated.

That sounds like a better idea. I wouldn't 'waste' a 4ft tank on some sharks though as they're not something i am into. Obviously everyone is different and thats just my opinion. I still don't think that a 2ft tank is suitable for both Kribs and Rams. But if you carry on like this then you will end up with 10 tanks before you know it. lol.
