ok, you probably havent seen this tank here before, because i never really thought of it as planted, but recently ive been looking at it and it is looking reasonably planted now.
Sorry about the pic quality, taken on a camera phone as digi cam has no battery left, will get better pics soon hopefully.

the plants are vallis, java fern, tiger lotus lily, hornwort, and a bit of java moss which is currently tied onto slate, it was growing on the slate but wasnt like a carpet it was just like a normal plant so i folded it over and tied it down in the hope it would spread across the slate more.

I dont use co2 or anything, only root tabs

the tank only has 1.5wpg or something so the plants grow slow and steady, my java fern probably does the best, i picked off 10 lovely good sized plantlets yesterday and im passing them on to someone on the forum :) my tiger lotus lily also does pretty well but grows slowwwww.

oh, btw, its a 15g :)

comments? id love to know what you all think as i never regarded it as a planted tank really

edit: heres a 'proper' picture of it with my digi cam.

thats very pretty geo well done
:good: would look nice in my new study :shifty:

AHHHHHHHHHHH you got me in the planted section
(runs off)

Looks like you have some nice, healthy plants there. At least you are giving them root tabs.

Stick with this forum and we`ll have you using pressurised CO2 and and a fertilised water column in no time. Seriously though, you have a nice set up there. Why not take it to the next level.

Cheers, Dave.

Thanks hels, but it look nice enough next to my bed tyvm :p

thanks Dave, i have been thinking about adding a Nutrafin co2 kit, but im worried about algae, i get hardly any algae at the moment thanks to the plants, but im worried that if i do add co2 then i would, any advice?

I do hope to make at least this tank quite well planted, so i should be sticking with this forum ;)

The biggest enemy of algae is lots of healthy plants. CO2 will be of benefit to your existing plants and to the detriment of algae.

What will trigger algae are Ammonia and light levels at 2WPG and greater (generally speaking). Have a read of the pinned DIY CO2 at the head of this forum.

Dave.

ah i seee, so co2 wont actually cause loads of algae growth.

well i think im going to get a basic nutrafin co2 kit and then maybe upgrade the lighting in the future sometime :)

see look im already hooked! :hyper:

edit: I have decided to get one nutrafin co2 kit some time, hopefully later in the week :hyper: cant wait lol

Nice tank. :good:

If I were you I wouldn't bother adding CO2 or fertilisers. Your plants look as if they're doing OK already. Slow growth can be good in my opinion. Although one nutrafin CO2 kit would benefit.

Cheers,

Mike
