My aquarium (61l) is now down to 9 fish. Kids want to put neon tereas in, though, with 1 ancient gold barb, 1 cherry barb, 2 corydoras & 5 timid 5-band barbs.
Will the tetras become food for the barbs or is it possible to have them together?

not sure about the other types but cherry barbs are peaceful, i have quite a few in my tank, they are schooling fish and much happier in groups of 6 or more

Cherry, golden, and 5-banded barbs are the lease aggresive of the barb species. I would say its OK to add tetras as I have black phantom tetras with my 5bandeds.

Having got some platys, within a week 5 of the 11 I got died & 3 of the barbs, went too.

Not had this sort ofdecimation before & was a bit worried that disease got in. No point asking the shop as they will obviously not say "yes, our fault" & the water quality seems OK too. :good:

Otherwise they all seem to get along OK.

er . . . . . . how sad for the ones that died.

I'd add filament/blackspot Barbs to that list. though they do grow big. (4-6 inches)

What about odessa barbs? Can shey live with a angle?

I've got Odessa barbs with angels and so far no problems. They tend to ignore each other for the most part. The Odessa's are very pretty little fish and very quick especially at feeding time.
