Because of there smaller size and less aggressive nature, they are one of the few mbuna that can be kept in smaller tanks (smaller meaning 30 gallons). Males are light and dark striped blue, the females are sort of schoolbus yellow. They're mostly herbivorous and do best on a diet of primarily spirulina. Inferior males can and will assume the colors of the female if they're nervous about the dominent male in the tank. As far as care, they are similar to most mbuna - neutral or above ph, lots of hiding spots, and tankmates that share similar aggressivon and diet. They appreciate a sand substrate and love an algae infested environment.
