So i have a pair of german blue rams, they paired off as soon as they were introduced. The female laid eggs a few days ago and they were guarding them together, which was quite ammusing to watch! But then they ate them. Now all of a sudden they seem to have lost interest in each other. and are quite aggressive to each other. Is this normal? What has happened?

Cichlids can be very finicky fish at the best of times. So i wouldnt be too alarmed at what you are seeing. Usually with most cichlids they won't quite get their breeding instinct right first time, so have patience. Keep conditions optimum for them and they will try again i'm sure. Fish aren't like people and alot of species will not mate/pair for life, having a male/female combination in a tank will give you better odds of them repeatedly breeding, but when they are not breeding they can sometimes be more like two fish stuck in each others territory, rather than a pair. Keep an eye on them, there isn't really alot you can do to stop them fighting, maybe put a divider in the tank IF it looks like either is taking a particular beating. The female might just be a little mad at the male after they failed haha :p
