Lots of fish change colour when the lights go out.

I once switched on the lights in a tank that has false neon tetras in it, when it had been in the dark, and they'd lost all their blue; they looked like glowlight tetras!

My neon tetras look awful at night  .They get their color back when the list go on.

Yup.  I didn't really notice that, until I had one in QT.  He looked terrible at night, and I was certain he'd be a goner in the morning.  Morning came and he looked as good as normal - except for the one popeye - which is why he was in QT.

I came home the other night very late and checked on my tank when I got home.  The neons actually looked like zombies!  They were completely washed out, and seemed unable to swim properly.  They just kind of moved about cock-eyed and without any purpose, which is exactly what the one in QT looked like.

When I first started out with fish in my bedroom when I lived with my folks I had a thirty litre with various fish.

I remember coming home early one morning to see my fish swirling with the flow of my pump. I pinged the light on to see a load of dull colours, completely panicking I'd lost them all, but thinking what can I do at 2 in the morning without waking everyone up?
I switched the light off and thought ill wait until the morning to deal with the consequences.
Morning came, I turned their light on and all was fine! Colours slowly brightened and they had had their nap and therefore lots of energy to swim in the current!

This was before the time of Internet fish forums! :D
