I've just added my first piece of Mopani wood. I've been boiling it and soaking it for a few days and have just added it to my tank (seeing as wednesday is my fishy day!) and i've noticed it's grown a slight fur!

Is this bad?

It's dead hard to explain and my camera has awful at zooming so i've got no picture! (it's kind of colourless!) - but I can still see it...

It's a long fur that is just waving in the current.

Hi,

Some of my wood grew white fluffy stuff on it even after it had been soaked for weeks, i think it was a type of mold? i had to take it out about 4-5 times and scrub it off then it just went away. I haven't had any problems since.

My mopani wood did the same - it went away on it's own although one of my new fish brought fungus with it so I was treating for that at the time - maybe that got rid of it! Haven't seen any for a couple of months now anyway!

My bogwood occassionaly grows a fluffy, mould thingie on it.

Hasn't harmed any of my fish and in fact, the gourami and shrimps often munch on it quite happily when it does appear.

I did ask about it in the planted section when it first appeared - cos I'd lost other fish at the time - but no-one knew what it was. Tried to scrub it off, boiled the wood for hours etc, but no luck.

I have however taken to see it as an indication that my water stats are on the high side and do a major vac and water change whenever I see it appear again.

Had it before too. My fish also loved to munch on it...
