Been having a bit of a spring clean in the betta tanks. Clancy who I adopted has SB so he has a long tank with low water in it. Only one ornament, nothing on floor, bit of real weed and one of those flat heaters which he spends most of his time sitting on. Clancy is a dark red with some purple in, and there was purple on the heater... I thought I was seeing things but it wiped off with kitchen roll and it looks as if it has come off the fish! is that normal? Clancy dont look bovvered.

err pass..is no help smurfy! say something constructive ! :grr:

errr maybe some of the bettas pigments were diposited in the slime coat and it has sort of "cooked" or "burnt" onto the heater i think thats the best i can think of there is that better :good:

:D That is a fantastic idea....see you can do it....think theres only me and you on here...and I am supposed to be mucking out the guiinea pig cage! :good: thanks

well then get back to workyou sciver

When it comes to betta diseases/ailments, I am totally clueless. Sorry. Don't even know what SB stands for....

:D sorry swim bladder ..so he has a job swimming sometimes..so I keep the water low so he hasn't got so far to go when he wants a breath of air!

hmm... very odd, your heater question. i can't imagine what the stuation might be. i guess its POSSIBLE there was something in his slime coat. it's not a hunk of fin is it? i had a betta once with finrot and big chucnks would just fall off and get stuck in the plant :/

-_- no he hasnt lost any fins..there is just like a purple film on heater I suppose you could call it slime. He has made a little bubble nest so he isnt bothered.

algae...but only on the heater and purple? one of the other tanks has same heater and that gets slime on it but not purple. :good:

Actually, there is such a thing as purple algae, and it can develop pretty fast, often overnight. It might just've started on the heater and hadn't had much of a chance to spread before you wiped it off.
