If a cop asked me what was in my backpack I would have said "Show me your search warrant"!

Cops can search whatever they want as long as they have unreasonable doubt and suspicion. Since the OP said it was at a place where teens do illegal things, he was justified.

I soooo wanted to see that cops face!!!

It was a priceless moment xD best part is I'm going back today for more sand (I just realized I'm moving in a month and I'm going to lose this prime gathering location)! On my "shopping list" today is:

I presume you meant reasonable suspicion / probable cause. If you do not consent to a search anything found by an illegal search can not be used against you in court.
