My smaller firemouth cichlid has frayed fins and what looks like a tiny piece of cotton on his tail! What should I do?

Buy a fungus medication at your lfs. Some fungus meds need to be aplied directly using a cotton swab so be sure to read the directions. Fungus is usually a secondary infection as a result of a wound. Make sure if you medicate your tank that if you use carbon, you take it out beforehand.

Might be an idea to avoid N08 fungus treatment, i lost some fish today after using it and it looks like others have too.

the 3 fish that were showing fungus are all alive and well, sadly 3 tiger barbs and 1 Rummy nose, which were healthy are now dead, all the fish were at the surface gasping, after water changes and putting back the carbon in the filter they recovered.
