heya all. seems im posting lots of these threads lately!

was observing my new 200l today which is in the middle of cycling having just added dose #2 of the ammonia and i noticed that there were a lot of white cotton wool-esque growths appearing on my bogwood centrepiece. the wood has been in there for just over a week now and this is the first time i noticed anything like this. is it a cause for concern? the growths look fairly similar to the fungal infection fish get as you can see in the attached image.

if its worth anything in this case i tested my water today and got the following:

pH 7.4; Ammonia 2.7ppm; nitrite 0.25ppm; nitrate 30ppm; KH 5; GH 10

any and all opinions are welcomed :) thanks!

That looks like the bogwood just has the normal "new wood" algae. It is completely harmless, and will go away in time.

Any fish you add in after the cycle may eat it.

white algae?? ok well thank you for the reassurance :)

it is new to my tank but it had been soaking in the store for about 6 months when i bought it (yay no tannins). is the algal growth most likely down to the fact im cycling too? i know blooms are likely during a cycle

Hmm, when this happened to me I was told it was a white "film", when it appeared on my newly cycling tank's driftwood. Harmless, and it went away over time :)
