Ok so my filter (small box one) turned up today along with my tap safe and I already have my 18inch tank, so.......

it needs cycling obviously, whats best to do? run the filter in my main tank for a week and add some media from original filter to it?

was also gonna add some substarate and decor from main tank to fry tank?

and I jst bought some bactozym tablets too.......

so whats the best way to do all this so I can make my molly fry happy

thanks everyone

those bactozym tablets, are they bactinettes? did you buy them out of a fridge? if they weren't refrigerated, i would say that you'd have to cycle your tank by running the new filter in the old tank, and squeezing gunk from your old filter onto it.
Transferring decor and gravel will help a bit too, but there's not heaps of bacteria there, it's mainly in your filter. remember that your bacteria need a constant supply of ammonia, so there's no put putting the decor and gravel in now, wait till you're transferring your filter and fry (or maybe up to an hour beforehand, so any cloudiness can start to settle.)
HTH.

Exactly as merry said;
Maybe take a small piece of media from your old filter and add it to the new one to help with the bacteria. Do run it in your old tank.
Put the bactozym in the bin.
I personally wouldn't add old substrate/decor to a new fry tank as i think hygeine is key, then again i'm paranoid :unsure: and don't breed fish.
The filter will be more than sufficient to keep the small tank cycled, once it has been run in the bigger of the two for a while.

bactozym comes in a blister packet (just like paracetamol or ibuprofen) and is caplets, it says to either let 2 dissolve slowly in the tank or place them in the filter compatrment so I have 2 floating in my main tank at the moment (which my box filter is now also sitting in) and 2 floating in the new fry tank, was gonna leave box filter in main tank for say 2 to 3 days then transfer it to the fry tank along with the fry? sound about right or not?

sounds ok re: filter transfer, remember to squeeze filter gunk into new filter (before or during running in main tank).
But really, no fridge for bacteria=no point in using product. Truly.... would i lie to you? or would lfs people who want money?

No, I trust your judgement, its what your here for after all!! to be fait to my lfs (AQUATOR in Torquay) they are great, it was my local Pets at home store where I bought it, should have known better really seeing as it was them who sold me the Gibbicep and the chinese algae eater and the gold sucking loach, all on the same day, even though I told them what tank I had etc, they said it would be ok.......

note to self......no more pets at home!!
