Hello Guys,

Welljust 10 Mins Ago I went outside into the garden to check on the plnts I m Growing in a Water butt.

TO my Suprise I spot what looks like a Fry swimming around chasing Mozzy Larvae.

I Have no Idea what it could be as I have Never put any fish in it.

I did try to hatch brine shrimp in this - Could there have been some fish eggs in the Mix.

I thought this would be the best place to post as Most easily recognisable by Fry Color.

Here Goes:
The Butt holds ? amount of water and has Mozzy nd Daphnia in it as well as growing my Water lettuce and java Fern in this.

looks a bit like guppy fry not sure though it aint a livebearer though because they dont lay eggs

I'll Post pix every few day to log their progress.

Did you move the plants from a tankto the water butt to grow? Maybe there were a few tiny babies in the plants that were moved with them. They look like platy babies to me! Mine just dropped and they look exactly the same

I did move some Wate Lettuce from the Main Tank - Probably came with them. Never thought of that.

Or could they have ome with the Java Ferns - They Arived on Monday fom Ebay

Looks like Guppies or Mosquito fish. It's hard to tell from the pictures, but as they grow, it will be easier to tell. :)

I put a guppy fry in a water butt by mistake. I net the daphnia or mozzies out of the water butt then put the net in the tank, if I don’t get many I do it again. So I think the fry got caught in the net and dropped into the water butt. The little guy was in there three days as I was using a different water butt for three days, it was only when I went back for more daphnia that I saw it. It must have been only 6 or 7C in that pretty messy water, the little one survived I returned it to the tank and it lived, tough little fish. Maybe that’s what happened in your case or of course it could have been hiding in the roots of the water sprite. It should be eating pretty well and if the water doesn’t have much ammonia and is warm then it should be fine. It looks like a guppy to me, hard to tell. It might be be better for it to move it to a filtered tank

I'd love for some mosquito fish, beautiful little things and they could go in my outside pond tub i use for growing random things like pond snails
