I got this fry in with a bag of Neon Tetra. I assumed it was a baby tetra but tail fin is different. The LFS often has lots of fish in same tanks so no idea what else was in there.

It's still small but grown quite a bit in a week. It's silver. Sometimes a little blue tint in light. It doesn't hang out with tetra. It did hang out Molly before that died.

I'm also in the club of getting a free guppy fry with a bag of different fish. A lot of fish stores have the majority or all of their tanks connected to a sump, so it's not that unusual for a fry to take a trip through the sump and wind up in other tanks. Or it gets caught in a net and transferred. But hey, free guppy! Mine survived and became a beautiful male.

Two options for that if youre referring to platies having fry; you can get a cheap breeder box at Petco/Petsmart/Walmart where the female can go and the babies will softly fall to the bottom of the box underneath the mesh (see picture) or if you have very heavy foliage in the tank and hiding spots, they will hide. It is also a good idea to put a thin piece of cloth mesh (cheese cloth or cut panty hose ; not washed with detergents and well rinsed with water) over the filter intake and secure with a rubber band if the babies have free range in the tank, though I just kept mine in the breeding box because they still get heated and filter water in it. This will ensure they don't get sucked up in the filter. I did these things with my guppy fry (similar to platies) and it worked great.

Those boxes stress the female and shouldn't really be used. it is better to let the female give birth in the tank then if necessary catch the babies and put them in the box. This is another good reason for lots of plants to the fry have somewhere to hide ;)
