A couple of my baby fry have died for the last couple days. Today 2 died. Is this normal for fry at this age? My fry are 4 weeks old. Also all 45 of my fry are in a large breeder box. Are they dieing because of that?

You might be overcrowding them. They should be free swimming. How larger is the tank? How about the breeder box? What are your water parameters?

they could do with being in a tank of the own with some cover little tanks dont cost that much

cheers dane

My dad doesnt want me get tank for them cause then he has to get filter and heater. The tank is 48 gallons. The breeder box is 6x3x3 1/2 inches.

Look at my sig to see my fish in tank... I also only feed the fry once a day because now i started highschool so i get up at 5:30 am (too early to feed them) then i get back at 4 pm (then i feed them) and then feeding them later i think is too soon.

My dad has now decided im not getting a grow out tank... I love my fry so much and i see there personalitys (in groups since theres so many) and i would love to see them grow. Apparently i must give them away. Who do i give them to? Im afraid if i give to petstore they wont care about them and just release into a tank with fish or if they leave them in the box they will die anyways....

Try selling them on aquabid, a lot of people like to buy fry as they can estimate the age etc...

Some questions.

1. Whats a good starting price for platy fry?

2. How do you ship the fish?

3. Whats an easy way to count a large amount of fry?

Hya - sorry you have to get rid of the fry. I can't help you with a price as I'm in the UK and I'm sure prices differ. As for shipping try and get as much air in the bag as possible. It's not the water that keeps them going (ok so thats pretty important) but the amount of air in the bag - make sure it's tightly sealed. As for counting, its the same way I count thousands of birds at a time (for a living). You count 1,2,3,4,5, estimate the area of the five then 10, 15, 20, 25, again estimate the area then 25, 50, estimate the area then 100, 150 you get the idea -you count them in chunks. Hope that helps.
