Frusterated About Ready To Give Up!

Hey, I just looked down at my hands and thought of something  I polish my nails every so often. I never have fresh polish on when I vacuum out the tank.....but even with old polish on....do you think that could have something to do with why my fish are dyin? Does any ladies out there stick their hands in their tank with polish on?
That would do it.

I'm female and I don't paint my nails too much work I'm a bit of a Tomboy anyways. But if you put your hands in the tank shortly after doing your nails that could be it. Are all your fish doing bad or just one type?I can not keep Cory cats alive for the life of me but I my blue acaras spawn and I have a happy helthy blue Jack Dempsey. But Cory cats all die in my tank when All my other fish are happy and fine.

I think it has to do with something in my water. It much be something in your water.

soooooooo, If I wear those cheap latex hospital like gloves you get at the drugstore I suppose that will affect the water as well?

I paint my nails, but never before or the day of cleaning the tank. Even if it is dry, I don't do it. I also wash my hands if I have had a cigarette (always outside though) before going in the tank. And definately no hand cream.

I had same problem, my mollies seem to be the ones which die within weeks of getting them. Guppies and platy which are in the same tank seem fine. No reason or signs as to why.

Do you always buy your fish at the same store? I started keeping a log as there were 4 different stores I would go to. I wrote down the fish, where & when I bought it, and when it died. Did notice a trend and won't be going to one of the stores anymore.

I've got nothing to add with the nail polish but with the latex gloves, water will get into them and thus into the tank. You would probably need one of those elbow or shoulder length exam gloves depending on how deep your tank is. But as far as latex being harmful, I don't think it is, I used to use them doubled up in my sw tank with no problem. I just rinsed them off before sticking them in and it seemed to work fine. I'm not sure if mine are actually latex or are the latex free ones though.

I was mindful of that too....I don't stick my hands in the water till at least two days of showers and handwashings after painting.....actually my polish now is pretty old like 3 weeks (I should probably give that up because I don't have the time to keep up with it) and it's the same polish I cleaned the tank with last week when I lost the molly and the clown. I just thought maybe it would have something to do with it. I'm sure it's the well water.

I gave up on glass fish totally because I went thru about six of those before I got the hint that they wouldn't last. I feel bad though about the other clown because he is not socializing as much as when his buddy was around. I would like to wait till the spring when I get the big tank to get another clown, but I don't want this one to be lonely and die either.......

My son and I luv our fish and fishkeeping but what a PIA sometimes!!!!

Ya, the store I go to (because it's one of the only close ones) ALWAYS have tanks that are being treated for ich.....and I get mad sometimes and tell em because they don't pay attention to the deceased fish. You're right, maybe I should go somewhere else.
