What do I do with frozen food, i've looked at the packets in the store and there's no instructions. Do i leave it to defresot over night, or place it in a cup of hot water or? i want to buy some but i dont want to harm my betta.

The pack needs to be kept in freezer,
Renove a section of the food, defrost it in a cup of hot water.
I don't remove the liquid in a net but some members do.

I ususally defrost the little bit i need in a bit of the tank water in a cup, i find that using hot water sometimes cooks the frozen food as it defrosts.

I put a frozen cube on a saucer leave it on the side in the kitchen and forget about it :hyper: :hyper: then my hubby shouts "what the f.. is this in the kitchen" :shout: :shout:

Lol.
My cats sniff mine sometimes they tend not to want to eat it.
I now just leave my frozen foods in a little container to thaw out.

Cool, i might go buy some pack, think i can get 5 for £10 or somthing, should last a fair bit with only a single betta at the moment. and thanks

If you're feeding a single betta, you can either defrost a whole cube at a time and then refreeze it when you're done feeding, or break a little bit off the cube to defrost. As someone else said, warm water or tank water will work but not hot water!

I dont exactly know how they look yet, but i would have thought they're really small, so do i need something to use to feed him, or can you handle them with your finger?

Hi, I use a big plastic spoon and knock a cube onto it with scissors once it has defrosted (15mins) > then cut it into pieces and feed the various fish the relevant amount.

For a single Betta, one whole cube of Bloodworm / other FrozenFood would be a bit too much. > Try to cut it in half with wetted scissors and put rest back in the freezer.

Remember to wash the implements, or use 'fish-only' spoon/sieve/scissors (that's what I do)

:good:

(alternatively u can use your hands, but it depends on whether you mind having bloodworm smell on them.
I have seen many people hand-feeding fish (especially Oscars)

I am amaized how complicated people make things when feeding frozen food.

I get a cube of bloodworm for example out of the freezer and literally "waft" it around in the fighters tank. As it defrosts, small amounts of bloodworm fall off the cube and the fighter eats it. You can feed small amounts or large...it's up to you and you just put the unused food back in the freezer.

I've heard people say various things in the past about this method....including "won't it chill the fish" and "what about all the juice that goes in the tank" ???

Been using this method for 25 years on ALL my reef aquariums and trops and it doesn't seem to bother my fighters either.

Try it....it's very easy, honest.

I do the same, and i dont have any problems either. I wouldnt bother defrosting because a few worms in the water will take the temperature of the water in a matter of seconds. The only time I would defrost is when im trying to soak the food up with zoe.

just wanted to say DO NOT USE HOT WATER!!!!

the smell of cooked bloodworms is so foul I threw up...my 15 month old son started asking "where stinky poo?"

i put a little tank water into a cup and let it defrost there. i dont dump any of the water back in becuase it fouls up the water :p

I usually feed y fish booldworms with a tweezer.
