How often should one use frozen brine shrimp as a meal? I've read that frozen bloodworms should only be a treat every two weeks or so due to low nutrient value. My fish love both, just wondering if I should ration the brine shrimp as well.

P.S. I know live would be better but where I live live would be a treat, none available close by.

i think twice a week is good. anymore than this ( apart from breeding ) will result in...

poor water quality - uneaten 'wasted' food rots.

overfeeding - making the fish sick,

premature filter maintenance - the more food that gets sucked up by the filter, the more often it has to be cleaned.

mark.

i used to feed brine shrimp spinach and daphnia three
times a week and flake and high protein granules the rest of the week
and courgette/cucumber peas and beans and fruit other times :good:

Brineshrimp by themselves actually have very little nutrition value. If they have been "gut loaded" with food before being frozen or otherwise enriched to be of any use as a staple food (which is why freshly hatched brine shrimp are better as they still have an egg sack which has a good nutritional value).

As such I would say maybe once a week would be fine (twice a week max). Never heard of bloodworm being low in nutritional value though and I have known a few people who have recommended bloodworm for conditioning breeding fish.

It is very easy to grow your own brineshrimp and doesn't cost very much at all (can be done for less then £10). Then you can have a constant source of live food for your fish :)
