Frozen Bloodworm

I have just fed my lot frozen bloodworm for the first time, it went down a storm but what they didn't get in the first flurry what do I do? Do I clean the gravel off or leave them to clean it up? I cleaned the tank out yesterday I am doing twice weekly 15% changes so I did one of those just yesterday. Thoughts? Opinions?

It depends how much there is left, tbh. If there are only a few, leave the fish to finish them off, but don't feed them tomorrow.

If there are masses lying all over the place, do a little clean up to get the majority out.

Do you have any bottom feeders? they'll clear them up pretty fast, my cories love bloodworms it sometimes takes them a few minutes to find and eat all the ones that make it past the other fish.

I have an upside down catfish but thats about all, the mollies do scavenge an awful lot...? Unfortunately I think there is some in amongst the plants whether or not the others will get it I don't know... Will clean out in an hour or so if there is much left.

So on the plus side bloodworm, a BIG hit!!

By overfeeding them? Possible, but very unlikely as it's just this once; overfeeding really only becomes a problem when it's frequent.

Okay thats fine, is there anything that can help the food move through? I don't really know how to put in less as they I just put in a cube but it confused them when it fell to the bottom and so they got all over excited up at the top... I want to put a plec in but I feel its too soon as I have no real algae build up as its a relatively new set up?

You should let the bloodworm defrost in a little tank water first, that way you can control how much you add.

I'd chop the cube in half next time; even if it's still frozen, it's not hard to do with a big knife

Tbh, plecs really don't eat that much algae anyway (and need proper food of their own); they certainly produce more mess than they clean up. What sort of plec were you thinking of, and what are the dimensions of your tank?

I scoop out a little tank water in a little pot and drop the frozen block in - wait until it's defrosted and then add the bloodworms slowly. It stops them from pigging out and you stop adding when they've had enough. I'd say you could put the remainder in the fridge for another day (not done it as my cory's hoover any that my guppies havn't pigged out on)

Yeah they are only between 4-6inches when fully grown I have been told, someone said I could have more then one but I will see what happens with the one. Would love to get a boy one but no way to sex them.

I've got three in a 240l, and while they might do a bit of pushing and shoving over a tasty morsel, they never do any harm. They are very easy to sex once mature (males have bristles, females don't), but not at the size you normally buy them at.

Well, it will, but honestly, one cube of bloodworm in a 200l? It's not going to do any harm; like I said, just don't feed them tomorrow, or even for a couple of days if you're really worried, and everything will be just fine
