hi all ia couple of days ago i purchased a pak of frozen bloodworm i jus drop them strate in my tank as a frozen cube an let them thaw out in my tank am i doin it ok or should i thaw them out first :dunno:

You should thaw them out first as a fish body temperature is controlled by the temp of the water around it and feeding them frozen foods can make them constipated and/or sick, also 1 cube of bloodworms can contain hundreds of bloodworms which is far to many for your average amount of fish and tank to handle.
Try and just give them a pinch of bloodworms, realy no more than 3 bloodworms per fish, bloodworms can be a bit big to bite off and if you have any guppy or tetra sized fish these can choke on large bloodworms- you can solve this by crushing the bloodworms up while they are still frozen so they are nice and broken up when they thaw out :)

We usually drop a cube into small bowl of tankwater until it's thawed, then drain it through a net and distribute it among the fish and tanks.

However you do it, I think it's a wise precaution to thaw the food before introducing it.

definately thaw them first in tank water

then drop them in slowly otherwise your fish will eat them all as fast as they can

3 per fish is good for small community fish.

I thaw mine in tank water aswell, one cube does all my fish in the 300lt but I only give them it once every 3 days or so.

I usually just put them in as I'm cutting them to pretty small and they were melting any ways during the process. And my fish doesn't seem to have problem with this.

That's what I do too  I take a pair of (fish dedicated) scissors and just snip a cube up into small pieces. That's how I've always done it it :dunno:

I visited an angling suppliers the other day - under duress I must add. And they sold frozen bloodworm in a HUGE pack. It cost me £10 but is lasting for ever! Although a bit messier than the cubes when preparing, it is actually better as you can slice off exactly how much you want - may be worth a trip.

thaw deffently and dont over feed them i know how fun it can be to watch them eat every last thing lol

You should always make sure its fully defrosted first. Never feed them frozen as Tokis-Phoenix said.
I've also read that if you defrost them in a jar of tank water you should never pour that all into the tank as it will contain bad stuff (cant remember exact details)
I now put mine in my fish net and defrost under the tap and only put in the bloodworm.

My LFS sells these, i find best way of breaking bits of is stab a sharp knife through about 10mm from the edge and then managable pieces break off. Repeat till you have required amount. Also get plancton (krill) this way to. Far cheaper than cubes.

Thanx...This is very interesting...I also just put the cube in frozen, it soon thaws out, but its nice to know this information :D Maybe i am over feeding mine then? I only have 20 fish???

A cube of bloodworm is too much for your average load of 20 or so fish, its not somthing you should feed your fish entirely off or every day on as its very high protein stuff that doesn't give your fish all the nutrition they need and too much can make your fish get constipated or make your water quality go bad much quicker than usual.
I usualy feed my fish bloodworms once a week along with other things like frozen krill and daphinia, when they get these high protein foods its usualy their only meal of the day apart from some fry food like TetraMinFry so any pregnant livebearers i have or small fish like tetras get enough food too :) .

So if you only give them this once a week, what do you feed them on the rest of the time, tropical flakes? I also have to put a algae tablet in every so often too for mine.... I think i have been over feeding them Lol, i usually give them 1 bloodworm cube every 2 days... :*)
