Hello! I just bought a 55 gal. aquarium 48Lx13Wx21H. I am use to 10gal or smaller with little tropical fish and im wanting to switch to cichlids. Ive been trying to decide what type of fish to get as well as how many before i setup my tank so i can decide how to decorate it. I already know im getting them as juveniles and i would like large bright fish as its not for breeding but just to look beautiful. This is proving to be ridiculously difficult because it seems most fish will kill eachother lol so ive decided to just pick a few that i like and dont seem too hostile.. if someone could tell me what fish would be compatible with blood parrots, angel fish, or any other suggestions and about how many i should get as juveniles for my size tank. Im completely lost!

Angelsfish need to be bought as a singleton or a 6+ group, unless they are a bonded pair, as they can be rather spiteful with each other. They need 18" (45cm) of water depth excluding the sand/gravel, to prevent stunted growth, which shows up as a loss of their classic triangular look. They will eat small streamlined fish like Neon Tetras when they get near adult size, part of their natural wild diet.

Cannot comment on Blood Parrot Cichlids, sorry!

So would my size tank be big enough for a group of them?

Your tank is plenty large enough for a group of 6 angels, as well as some medium sized schoolers (red eye tetras would look great imo) and some bottom feeders (julii cories come to mind)

Keep in mind that blood parrots and angelfish aren't the only laid back cichlids. (I also find blood parrots to be more hideous than even the most inbred mutated goldfish)

You can look into a few festivums, keyhole cichlids, dwarf cichlids like bolivian rams and apistogramma species, (The dwarves could also be mixed with medium sized laid back cichlids) in few cases firemouths are quite docile (but I wouldn't recommend them to a beginner without backup as they're quite unpredictable and fully capable of holding their own and then some) rainbow cichlids could work, but they're kind of a gray area for me so I couldn't tell you much about them, and I'm sure there are many others out there as well.

Just please don't get a blood parrot , any beautiful community you create will be ruined by sticking this hybrid Frankenstein fish in your tank imo

hello, you already posted a very similar thread here yesterday. Please try to not post the same topic multiple times - thanks!
