I have had gold and blue rams in my tank for a while and have decided to slowly replace the expired fish with larger cichlids (please note, expired through natural means ie old age) i have just bought 3 keyhole cichlids and was wondering if i could add red breasted acaras to the mix. Its a 300L, 5 ft tank with loads of bogwood and silk plants..how soon after adding the keyholes would it be suitable to add more..thanks

I'd probably avoid the acaras in that mix. They're very shy. You're probably fine on size, but territory at the bottom of the tank would worry me. It would depend slightly on how many rams you have left though, I'd generally give a couple of feet per pair so a pair of rams and a pair of keyholes won't leave much ground space for the laetacara. They're also not all that much larger than your rams.

Is the 300l planted? Festivums may be an option for variety, or angels of course if you're after some size without being too crazy. There are lots of options to be honest.

there are only 2 rams remaining, one gold one blue. the gold one does bully most of the other fish at the moment but i think the keyholes would stand their ground once they have settled in.
