Hi all,

I am moving my three goldfish from a 20l tank to 190l tank.
I think i should simply fill the water on the new tank and dechlorinate it and then add the fish to there.

I have read forums suggestion that a fish should not be added to a new tank but i guess you need fish to do cycle and for my case a 190 liter tank is much better than the 20l which has lots of ammonia and etc in it

In addition, how do you move a fish and not cause a great stress to them ? I may have to move them from one location to another which is around 10 miles.

finally, my tank temperature fluctuates during the day and at night the room temperature is almost 18 or less . i have never had an auqrium before, so can i for instance buy a heater and set it to 19degree so the water stays at that temperature throughout the day? I think the normal temperature for fish is between 18-22, correct ? do they prefer the lower range?

thanks

I think the fish would be far, far better off in 190l; you might as well cycle that, fish-in, than continue with the 20l.

Bag the fish up and float them, just as you would if you'd got them from the shop. Add an eggcup so of tank water every 15 minutes or so, until the bag is full, then let them swim out. Keep them wrapped in a blanket so they're in the dark, that reduces the stress of moving.

You could buy a heater if you wanted, but fish can cope with fluctuating temperatures, as long as it happens gradually, which in a larger body of water, it will.

Linux, if you have a cycled filter on that tiny tank, move it over along with the fish. That way it can continue to support the fish until your new filter can become fully established as a biological filter.
