Freshwater Red Clawed Crabs

Just popped down to one of my LFS and saw that they were housing some Freshwater Red Clawed Crabs.

I was just wondering if anybody had any experience keeping them?

From Google, I have ascertained that they like climbing up plants/heater/anything to try and get out of the Aquarium.

Some sites seem to think they are okay in community tanks, others not.

Any Ideas?

no good for community tanks. They WILL eat fish given half the chance. Also they are primarily land crabs and need an area out of the water, which is where they spend most of thier time in the wild.

See, that's what I thought.

The LFS had them in a tank with.. Dwarf Gourami, I think. I spoke to one of the 'senior' members of staff and he seemed to think that they wouldn't attack other fish, even the smaller ones.

Decided to do my own research.

I had some in with some young GT and they could protect themself but they was forever on the escape from the tank, i'd find them on lid of the tank ect all the time - got rather annouying

I just really like the look of them! Might have to just get some Shrimp next week instead. Crystal red/Cherry's I think!

I've seen a few LFS in and around Hull selling these little blighters, they can be obtained very cheaply for trade and people assume crabs as being rather dosile.

I made the same mistake myself a few years back, they wait until the lights go out and then its fish nomming time. Any slow moving fish in the tank dont have a chance.

No such thing, RCCs are Brackish and require some salt to survive long term
