Four Point Five Ph!

You still want to be careful of increasing the pH too quickly, good thing your fish survived the big jump :) Defenitly leave the shells in there.

I removed about 3/4 of the broken shell yesterday. This morning the tanks ph is just below 7.0.
Yesterday I checked my tap water ph again. It was around 4.5. I put 4 gal into a plastic pail and added two small crushed oyster shells. This morning the ph of that water is 7.0. I'll keep checking it for the next few days. My idea is to add water to my tank, when I do a 25% water change once a week, using the water in the pail that is the same ph as the tank water. Does that sound OK? It seems to me if I use my 4.5 ph water from the tap to replace the water I've removed from the tank I'm just bouncing the ph up and down.

That definitely sounds like the way to go with water changes. Adding the tap water straight in would cause pretty large swings in the tank pH.

This morning the ph is up to 7.2!
I'm going to remove more oyster shell.
