i was at a mall in the city i live close to which had a wal-mart in it and i needed a new filter pad for my filter for my 17 gallon tank, i decided to look at the fish and i saw about 1.5" irredescent sharks for 6 dollars each, there were 15 or so of them, now i know why my lfs is getting irredescent sharks back constantly, if you didnt know much about fishkeeping wouldnt you want a beautiful 1.5 inch shark for only $6? i cant believe they do this, but i guess its all about making money isnt it?

yeah, when they see fish they just see money, and quite a few (especially big chain stores) really don't care after they've sold the fish. they really take advantage of people who are new to fish keeping, and who have done little or no research at all on what fish they want and just buy on impulse because they don't know any better(which i admit i did when i was starting out but i was lucky i had a good lfs). some lfs are getting really bad and selling anything and everything that will get them money, including getting species completely unsuitable for the aquarium and also things like dying the fish-once i saw a bright pink parrot fish which a new customer was interested in. The customer asked how it got its color and they said it was natural! i am appalled at some things lfs do and sell  . i can't believe it's legal.  :(
what they are doing is unfair and discourages new hobbyists from keeping fish-many take down their tanks when it all goes wrong, often due to bad lfs advice.

well the problem is wal-mart isnt even a fish shop they just have about 10 tanks in which they put random fish that usually are sick.
