ok hey so this is exciting, i was at my niebors house when i saw a 10 gallon aquarium, he asked if i wanted it and i said id think about it, a free 10 gallon tank!
Should i take it? it was just a tank and some gravel, and if so, what do you think i should do with it? idont really want to buy a hood, filter , heater exc
but maybe i could breed my betta in it?
Does anyone have any sugestions?

Fill it with fish of course. If you don't have a heater you might try more adaptable fish, most live bearers for instance take well to a wide range of temperatures. I've known guppies to be good at as low as 65F. But your stock is a bit limited due to the small tank size. You have a betta in your avatar, maybe divide it in thirds and keep a few males, or a female community?

Splash out and make it a nice planted FW mini community :)

Hi spazzinout53 :)

There's not a lot you can do with an unfiltered, unheated and uncovered tank. If the room temperature doesn't get lower than about 60 degrees, and you were willing to buy a tight fitting cover, African Clawed Frogs are a good option. One or two would fit in your tank, although you may want to move them up to a 20 gallon some time in the future, when they get big.

These aquatic frogs do not need filtration, but do need regular tank cleaning. The gravel must be large enough that they cannot swallow it.

There is also a smaller version of aquatic frog, the African Dwarf Frog, and you could keep a half dozen in there instead. They are interesting pets. :D

I'd definately recomend the dwarf frogs, very interesting little things and it's very entertaining hearing the males 'sing', just make sure you get a good cover as they can escape given the chance. Also I'd recommend sand for them if you get the chance to change it.

I'd also go with what SJK2 said, how about making it planted with some frogs or a betta if you can keep the temperature high enough or get a heater.

Or do a bit of all of the above, divide it, plant it, have dwarf frogs one side, betta the other(you can mix them though if you'd prefer).

true, i just always think of shrimp as tank mates with them so always think of a hood
