hi again,i have been having a problem with my male koi's mouth his lips seem wrond like dislocated, spoke to the guy in my LFS and he said bring the fish in he had a look and said its 2 much fore play lip locking,he said the lip can be manualy massaged back in wich he did and it never happend he checked his gills as he breathes faster than the female and he said they are healthy they were deep red in colour no grey,

does this sound right? i know they lip lock ,they go to do it but dont actually lock they have a nubble at one another and are allways doing it especially when the light is off

any advice welcome,

oh sorry his lip wouldnt massage back in the man said it might just stay like it.

you thread is a little confusing to start with. I gather we are talking about Koi angelfish and not koi carp.
Angels do lip-lock and push each other around. If they are similar in strength then they will pair off. If not the weaker individual gets chased away. Two males will lip-lock wrestle over territory.
I'm not sure about what's happened (without seeing a picture) but I think you are talking about the bottom of the jaw popping out downwards. It does sometimes happen and you can sometimes push it back up but most often it is a genetic weakness and doesn't stay put. Fish can live for years with it sticking out but they look wrong.
You can try holding the fish in a net and gently rubbing under the chin. it may go back in but not always.

hi colin thanks for that soz it confused you ,and yes i was onabout angles not carp,

the angles i have were sold to me as a breeding pair the guy in the lfs done what you said with the bottom lip but it never went back in,just hoping to get some young from them, many thanks.

If they were a pair when you got them then they should breed and you should get some young. As long as the fish can still feed, and they usually can, there shouldn't be any major problems. It sometimes happens to rainbowfish and tetras. They continue to live a normal life but they look wierd :)
