pair of calico cons fed on mini cichlid pellet, blood worm and woodlicei used to keep severums many moons ago and they went mad for par boiled or limp lettuce

Also how many times do most of you feed your cichlids? I was told they will eat alot and to feed alot so I was thinking for now until my little ones get bigger to feed 3 times daily.... one time in morning with flake food once at mid day with pellets and once at night with flake again?

Cichlids will accept most prepared and frozen foods; I feed cichlid pellets of various types, different types of flake, tetra prima, catfish pellets, algae wafers, cucumber, peas, prawns, lettuce, broccoli, courgette, bloodworm, brineshrimp, daphina, glass worm, virtually any fish food I have I offer my various cichlids. I only vary the diet so much as I have the food for the other fish as well, but variety is good.

Mike cichlids will eat whenever offered food, I feed once a day, twice occasionally.

Hikari sinking carnivore pellets, Dainichi primary krill, Dainichi ultiman, Hikari bio gold +, tetramin rich mix, nutrafin, tubifexworms, peas, bananas, spinach, prawns, mysis, krill, I could go on and on. :good:

My jd is on the larger size, getting close to full grown (~6 to 6.5") so if your fish are bigger, try freeze dried/ frozen krill, cichlid pellets, peas (with the skins removed) and he even sometimes munches on the algae wafers I put in for my pleco.

If your are still smaller, can see if they will go after small shrimp(brine, mysis), bloodworms, krill (broken up), cichlid pellets

I wouldn't use flake. It does give them the vitamens they need but the cichli pellets give them this too with extra fat and protein, two things they need to grow to the large sizes most will grow.

O and a last note... if you are ever having some shrimp cocktails, take one of the frozen (already cooked) shirmp, thaw it and cut it up into managable pieces. they should go crazy for it! :good:

my sevs r about 2" n the cons r about the same, the eggs have just hatched cos i think theres movement instead of eggs, wot do i do now about feeding the fry ? i shall go 2 the LFS n buy loads of various foods as i want my fish 2 be strong n grow fast, i bought sum kinda dried shrimp in a box i broke it up but they wudnt eat it n it just floated, my terrapins used 2 eat the same stuff. thanks every1 for ya advice, i shall find more food 2 feed them :good:

oh yeh i avnt tried shrimp or prawns yet but all the fish ive had in the past have gone wild for ir, even the dwarf frogs try n swallow more than they can handle lol :D

the dried shrimp were most likely krill as other types of shrimp they try to sell freeze dried usually crumble and become a powder during shipping.

The fry will eat brine shrimp and crushed up flake. Use frozen brine the for the aformentioned reason above

My Oscar will eat anything on the table...including the table. LOL

I've found a recipe that I want to try, once my grocery store gets my beef heart. It's a mixture of shrimp, beef heart, chicken liver, spinach, cichlid pellets, all wrapped in gelatine.

I know right now I can get Ody to eat anything. I feed him once to twice per day, more if he begs hard enough. Right now it's a big krill, he's 2.5 inches now, and a bunch of pellets, hand fed to him, as he likes it that way. LOL As a snack, I'll give him some tropical flakes. They don't do much for him, but he likes the taste.

the dried shrimp i bought were called river shrimp i just had a look, i like ya ideas on how ya feed ya oscar im guna try n get sum beef heart for my fish aswelll, the live cichlid blocks (frozen) has beef heart in it so it must be a popular meal for them. the river shrimp dosnt go down to well with my fish n it floats so maybe they need 2 be abit bigger. DARKWOLF wots gelatine ?
