Hello is it ok just to feed my fish the frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp and diahani or do they need the flake as well?

At the minute I`m feeding them flake and frozen but it looks like they prefer the frozen food best.

Feed flake as a staple, bloodworm etc. for treats.

Flake's been specially formulated to include all the vitamins/goodness that fish need. If you just feed bloodworm/daphnia your fish will miss out on that and it wont be healthy in the long run. Think of it as the equivalent to a person just eating steak.

feed them flake or granules etc everyday and then treat them to frozen once or twice a week.

i try and vary my food everyday between flake, prima, frozen freeezedried etc so they dont get used to 1 type of food and turn their noses up at others

I'd have to agree with feeding flake or similar prepared foods as a staple. If it's good quality prepared food it will provide most of the nutrition that your fish need. Feeding frozen/live foods is a great way to condition your fish for breeding, but for their general health and well being they really don't need it every day.

Sorry to hijack this thread but it seemed silly to start a new one on the same subject.

I have just acquired a pair of breeding halfback angels from a friend.

The food I was given with them was: 1.A pot of flake 2.A pot of high protein granules 3.Freeze dried daphnia
I was giving them a small amount of each 3 times a day.
Unfortunately I came home today and my dog had eaten the lot!
This is when I decided I'd better get an educated opinion on what is best to feed them as I will be starting a fresh.
I do have some flake left in the cupboard so they will be fine until I can get to the shop tomorrow.

What do you suggest I get for them and when do I feed it?

Well, the type of food and the ammount you give them would depend on what kind of fish you have. Some fish eat vegetable matter exclusively, some prefer meaty foods, others like some of both, and still others even need some wood in their diet.

What kind of fish do you keep, macksjay?
