I'm worried that my betta is not eating.... The food I feed him is in the shape of small mini pellets and they just sink strait to the bottom. I'm not sure if he eats them off the bottom... Do any of you know if they will eat this? If not is there any kind of flake food that I can feed him that sinks slowly? Thanks

You can buy flakes. I get the odd bloodworm fall to the bottom, I have to temp him down the bottom, when he sees it he gets it. Try some other foods such as bloodworms to temp his appetite. Also I always make sure he sees the food before I drop it too him.. it never lasts long then, little guts :S

You could try him on a bit of freeze dried tubifex as it floats! Mine seems to like it he chases away the other fish when I put in the tubifex him and my silver dollar absolutely love it! he also quite likes daphnia and peas along with bloodworms and the sinking wafers (he used to pull a bit into the teapot where he hides and munch on it)

When I first got him for two days he wouldnt eat but thinking back I was just putting in flake food at first and he hadnt quite got himself settled! But what can I say he's a character and a half now glad my partner talked me into getting one!

my new betta i've had for about 2 days won't eat pellet food
he's a fussy eater, only eats freeze dried/frozen/live food at the moment it seems
so he's been stuffing him self on freeze dried blood worm and frozen/live brine shrimp
fussy lil monkey.

Okay, thanks for the suggestions guys. Since I'm out of money maybe I can convince my mom to pick mue up some blood worms.. I know I saw some of those at the store...

When I first got my first betta, he went on a hunger strike for a week. Trying the frozen bloodworms is a great idea because once I got mine to eat something(he actually started on hikari pellets), he decided that he liked all of the foods that I had offered him previously. He just needed a little jumpstart. Also, he's my most vibrant betta with the best personality so I think he was just testing my dedication(and my wallet)

LOL! ive had mine for round 1 week now....little git donsent like flakes....he only likes bloodworms....but slowly im introducing TETRA PRIMA and HIKARI CARNEVOROUS FOOD STICKS....but a little at a time....the greedy chimp just jumps the bloodworms.... funny though....

I accidentaly fed mine goldfish food (Hikari Flake) and he scoffed it - the blue betta. If I feed the red betta flake I have to make sure he sees me.. get out one small flake put it on surface and then poke it so it sinks he then pounces on it and eats it. He will only do it with one flake though if I put another in he ignores it.

Since I called the red one a wimp he is attemtping to make a bubble nest. I did tell him if he made a nest I would take his piccie!

Okay, today I called my mom from school and left a message on her answering machine asking her to pick up some blood worms. She did but the only kind they had at the store was this wet kind in these little toob like kind of things (kind of like tooth paste toob). The betta did eat one chunk of it but left the other just floating around. I know he did see it. He went up to it ans smelt it but just swam away.. do you think he doesn't like it?
