I've had mixed opinions on this... I have my 75 gallon tank set up on a metal stand with a 1/2" foam board between them. I filled the tank upw ith water and all seems well, the foam has compressed slightly at the corners. I've got some people tleling me that using foam under a lgass tank is a disaster waiting to happen, while others say it's a must. What should I do?

Cheers,
Phil.

If its metal to glass, you need a cushioned layer of some kind, I use polystyrene. Some modern tanks such as Juwel brand build their tanks with a plastic frame thus negating the need for cushioning. Take a little mobile phone camera shot of what you have and this will give us some more idea if you are using the right material.

This is what I'm dealing with. In the second pic you can see how the foam is compressed a bit more on the corner. The tank has a floating glass bottom, I'm wondering if I ened to worry about it.

It isn't compressing enough to touch the bottom glass, so it shouldn't pose a problem. It really isn't needed with that stand & tank combo, but as long as it doesn't compress to the point that it begins to touch the bottom it's fine. It will have an insulating effect, so your heater will run a little less, saving some money.

Nice tank :good: . Do you have a hood for it?

Zoe

Thanks :)

No hood yet no, I'm waiting on my Coralife 220g protein skimmer coming in on friday before I decide on a glass canopy or something else. I'll be using the 4 lamp T5 TekLight as well. Once I get all my live rock int here wednesday I'll start up a journal :D.

Don't waste a second worrying about it - that's just the natural spreading of the tank's weight.
