Flval Fx5

Hi all,


Should have cash by next week to get new filter and start looking for a bigger tank. Tank wise am looking at approx 370L +, and advice on here has said filter wise something along the lines of the fluval fx5. I have seen them as much as £239, but as low as £145, they only include the foam blocks though, so I need to know what other media I will need to put in it, and what the costs would be? help appreciated here.

Fill the trays with bio rings (ceramic rings), usually a few pounds from LFS.

Yeah I used the plastic balls in mine think it was £5 per box and it took a box and a half to do all 3 parts.

Is that all the filter media I would need apart from the foam pads? How many trays are there? and would this be as well as putting in the foam pads?

Yep keep the foam pads in place, there are three trays which you can fill with the ceramic rings or as Wills uses plastic balls, either will be fine. You can even run it without anything in the trays, it increases the flow a little, but the more media the better.

Would it be ok to run this filter along with my current juwel internal 600 powerhead filter to mature up the potential new media, so I could then put it in my new tank once I get it, how long would I leave it running, about a month?

put the mature media from the juwel filter into the one of the fx5 trays and its instantly mature and will seed the rest of the filter quicker if more fish are added as its in direct contact or as close as to the new media. it will be quicker than trying to clone it and unless you want to you dont have to run both filters

Yep you could either add the media from the internal to the trays in the FX5 or yes you could run it alongside for a month or so.
