Fluval Lab Nirate Remover?

Hello,

I have just got in the post some Fluval Lab Nitrate Remover. Hopefully some one on here is using this product and give me some advise. It comes with a white cotton pouch and the media is in a plastic bag with a sticky thing to hold the bag shut. Do i need to tip the bag of media into the cotton pouch or just put the media with bag into the cotton pouch. just seems strange to do so because the plastic bag isnt pourous.

also i have a Fluval 305 external cannister filter do i put the media in the top basket?
