Fluval Edge

Looks like were going to get a Fluval Edge this week. (6gal)

I appreciate Small tank = Small fish and was thinking of stocking it with 6-8 Microrasboras and a shrimp to help clean the sand.

Am I on the right lines with the stocking levels or would this be too little / too many?

I have also read on the internet that some tropical keepers have kept fish in the edge without the need for a heater as the lights in the tank keep the water warm. Has anyone got experience of this or will I deffo need a heater?

Very refreshing to see someone come up with realistic stocking for the tank! Yes, your idea is perfect.

You do need a heater: the lights are not on at night, which is usually the coldest time.

Silly question time:

Are all Rasboras considered to be micro?

IE: would 6 x 8 Harliquin / Brigiate / Galaxys be suitable ?

Not a silly question. Microrasboras are not the same as rasboras: micro meaning tiny, or dwarf and rasbora referring to a large number of rasbora-like Cyprinidae. So, for example, many Boraras, Danionella, Microdevario, Microrasbora are considered microrasboras, also Danio species such as D. margaritatus (galaxy danio) or D. erythromicron (emerald danio) are sometimes too. Basically, any rasbora-like Cyprinid which maxes out at 20 mm or under (in a few instances just over too), would fall into that category.

Harlequins (Trigonostigma heteromorpha) are not micro because they grow to 5cm, are quite bulky and do best in a 3+ ft tank, so are not suitable.
Boraras brigittae and Danio margaritatus, on the other hand, are much smaller, so 6 of one or the other would be suitable.
