The best all rounder is the API master test kit which will cover all the basics for a good price. Most people recommend this one.

The Salifert ones are probably the most accurate, but do come in separate tests so can be a little pricey altogether.

My son has an Edge (he's got Endler's, ghost shrimp and an assassin snail in his), and I would stick to Endler's or guppies, microrasboras (steer very clear of zebra danios and White Cloud Mountain minnows, as even though they're small, they do like a lot of swimming space),the smaller tetras like neon, green neons or embers, shrimps and small snails, like nerites; apples get too big.

It's such a small tank, it's best to decide on one species of fish and not to mix them.

do any of your know if red/rainbow crabs are suitable for this tank?
If i were to go with say 3 guppies some sort of shrimp and one of the assassin snails would this be ok?

No way, red and rainbow crabs need land, they're not suitable for this set up at all and I have no idea why it's on the 'suitable for Edge' list (mind you, you could say that about most of the list).

You could go for three guppies if you wanted, like I said though, without females they tend to squabble a lot, whereas with a larger number of Endlers this would be more dispersed. Would you really be happy with only three fish?

Assassin snails are good if you have a pest snail problem, they do need a meaty diet if you don't have snails for them to eat, like sinking pellets and frozen bloodworm. Shrimp are good though, cherries are nice and bright and easy to keep.

You could see how you go with 6 and maybe add 1 or 2 more if you think it can handle it.

Post on the livestock classfied section here! Shrimp wanted! Cherries breed rapidly, I've seen them for sale on there quite a few times.

My local pets at home sell ghost and armano shrimp and they're pretty up on their fish (bit biast seen as I work there ), and there's another aquatic shop close to them who sell cherry shrimp....I think

I used a pet shop called the fish people, only a small place changing owners i think soon aswell,
