well i went upstairs today to find that my fluval 305 had pumped half of my tank all over the bedroom floor

never mind

adam

what happened?did you check the pipes were secure?and that the gasket was put in correctly?
i did the same thing with my fluval so now when i clean out filter and put it back toghter i block on hose with finger n blow down other to make sure gaskets in properly :good:

Adam - sorry to hear about the disaster - hope nothing went horribly amiss as a result. How about an Eheim Classic - they seem pretty bulletproof and dependable...

Could someone please explain what exactly goes wrong with a fluval? I've read lots of instances of disasters involving them and I currently am operating 4 fluvals... Just like to know what to watch for to avoid a disaster. thanks

Thanks for the reassurance :) I have one on nearly every every large tank at home and the prospect of a potential flood makes me kinda nervous... i check on all the filters periodically - so it's good to kno what to check for

Welcome to the world of Fluvals. Everyone I know in real life (including myself) has had them fail and dump all the water on the floor within 2 years of purchasing. They are so poor my lfs refuses to stock them.

Mine has been working fine for over a year and other than some first time mistakes on my behalf, has never dumped water on my floor.

It seems strange that so many people report problems with Fluval externals (including two former workmates of mine), yet their internal filters are fabulous; I ran a Fluval 4 Plus in my 4ft tank for nearly three years without a second's trouble. I admit their reputation led me to buy a Tetratec external some months back instead of a Fluval, as I work long shifts and didn't want to tempt fate.

well i had a tank from 13years old to 18years old<5 yrs>never had a problem with my fluval...
now the tank i have the man i brought it from had this filter for 8years and i have it around 6months....

both my fluval 404's are over 5 years old, i've just replaced all the pipes etc and given them a good spring clean and they're like new again! i had a 204 some 12 years ago when i had a tank previously and never had a problem :)

when i first had this tank set up, the guy that was paid to set it up ( don't ask) set one up wrong and all sorts of parts were needed to get it put right, i rang hagan and spoke to a really nice rep who sent me all the bits i needed for free!!

recently i broke the impeller and i ordered one from hagan and it was here within a few days, filter back up and running like clockwork :)

unlucky with your filter did it throw much water out? (litre wise)

mine done it but was a rena (came with tank) and threw about 23 gallons out (100+ litres) left it 2 days (fixed the filters/needed new gasket) and it stunk we had to move the tank and get a carpet cleaner to get rid of most the smell

hope you dont have to

chris

this is why I like the AquaOne canopy filter system
