I went to ths fish store today to get a 304 for my new 60G tank, but the guy at the fish store claimed that I shouldn't get it because it leaks and he's hald many customers return it. He recommended the Eheim 2213 Classic instead (which he's selling at the same price as Fluval 304).

Now I've done some research and not only does Eheim not have a 2213 listed on their site but the sites that do list/sell it say that it's capacity is 390lph which makes it good for a 20-30 gallon tank only (considering that most recommend the water in a tank to be filtered 3-4 times an hour). Plus it's got only one basket and the guy at the fish store was selling it for the same price as the Fluval. =\

So... think he has old Eheim stock that he's desperate to get rid of? And anyone had any experience with a leaking Fluval?

Should I get the Eheim instead?

Sounds like like he was talking nonsense, to be honest if Fluval's had a leakage problem there would have been a recall on them, I have a Fluval 404 and had no such troubles, and before I had a fluval 304 which never leaked.

Although I very happy with my fluval's and have never owned a Eheim, most ppl agree that Eheim's are better quality in general but your pockets have to be a little deeper ;) for these.

Thinking about it most ppl that have told me that eheim's are better are eheim owners they could be biased !!!!!!! :D

I own both Eheim classics and Fluvals.

First, my 304 is 2 years old and has never leaked yet.

Second, there is no bias, Eheim filters ARE better, in every possible way. Better material, better quality, less (no) water bypass, super silent. That does not mean they are worth the extra money to everyone, the Fluvals DO get the job done well enough.

I believe the Ehiem 2215 is more comparible to the Fluval 304. The 2213 would be in line with the 204, and the 2217 would be compared with the 404.

A lot of people (including myself) had problems with the old fluval canister design, often after any maintainance they would leak and generally be hell to get back together and working again. From what i have been told recently the new design is much better and has far less if any problems, however i would never buy another fluval as eheims are far superiour, when it comes to filters you really do get what you pay for.
