hey, i just got pais and want to go from my filter i got with my tank to an external filter. im finking about 205 or 305. i have a 95l tank and was thinking about 305 because over filtration must be a good thing nice clean water? and in july im thinking about upgrading to a roma 240 tank so the 305 would be fine in this tank also. but then sumone told me that it would create to my flow and wudnt be soo good for a 95L. the 105 is up to 100L but was finking surely it is better to better a bigger one? so 105 205 or 305? what do you think would be the best idea? i have 6 corrys 8 lemon tetras and 4 swordtails so dont know if that changes anything if they like strong flowing water or if there fish used to slow moving water or anything? cheers .

Ah, that makes it more complicated (I was the one who said that I wouldn't want a 305 on my 95 litre tank, if I was getting a new filter).
I still would not want a 305 in the 95l, but on the other hand, from my experience, I think it would not be enough for a well planted 240 litre (especially if it's a 4fter) because it could just cope with a 200 litre 3fter and not very well with the tank planted. In the end, I upgraded to something with slightly more sensible for the 200 litre as the 305 kept getting the inlet and pre-filters completely blocked up with plant leaves. Yes, the Eheim I upgraded to does not have this problem.
Why don't you buy a second hand 205 now, then sell it later? I find that second hand buying and re-selling prices are the same, so you'd basically get a free filter for three months and then you can get something bigger for the 240 litre later on. The beauty of external filters is that you get to keep the media, so you won't need to re-cycle the new tank.
Edit: I only just realised that the 305 had "adjustable" flow rate by manually closing off the tap on the inlet and outlet.. can't imagine this being good for the filter long term, but I would be happy to use in on the smaller tank, in this case.

I recently bought a Fluval Roma240, it comes with the 305, later in the year I will add a second external, 305/405 
For the 95ltr I would go for the 305 if it's within your budget, I'm a believer in "you can never have to much filtration"
The good thing about the way the Fluval external are set up is you can pretty much mix and match the media you put in the baskets
