The polyester pad (white) is the first stage mechanical filter media which is best as it collects a lot of the floating debris and stops the foam media from becoming blocked up which can prevent the useful bacteria from surviving.Hi
i have a fluval 2 filter for my aquariums and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what the difference between using a polyester pad or a carbon pad is and which one would be best to use?
thanks

The carbon pad is only used these days for removing old medications or water discolourating (from new bogwood etc) so is best removed and kept for such a time![]()
Totally agree with post above-and keep your poly pad as long as possible until it virtually falls to pieces-just wash it out in tank water and put it back in the filter-there is no need to replace every month/2 weeks or so-thats just to get you to buy new poly pads. I have the fluval 2+ filter and my poly pads will last 2 -3 months max before replacement becomes necessary.Hope this helps.
