are there any fish which can stand fluctuating temperatures?
my 11L has no heater, the light is the only thing which heats it.
in the day (with the light on) it is about 79F
at night (with the light off) it is about 74F
the temperature changes from one to the other very slowly (3-4hours)
i was wondering if any fish would naturally have a dipping temp. at night and would be able to stand these changes? any suggestions appreciated but remember it is only 11 Litres ;)

P.S. i already have a betta :p

Hi 'genesis :) what fish do you keep in your 11 litres ?
As this is a very small tank, I wouldn't have thought you could keep more than a betta. If that's the case, your temperature fluctuation is not ideal, but quite standard for most betta owners without a heater.
The fish can tolerate this, but as you can imagine, not ideal :)

Edit: I've just checked your profiel and see that you've actually filled it in - which is very handy.
Your betta will be fine, but if you can get a heat pad to keep the temperature more constant (these are tropical fish after all) it would be better.

thanks, just thinking that in the wild the temp. would naturally dip at night, im getting a heater free with my subscription of Practical Fish Keeping magazine, it should arive with the march issue :hey:

True - but in the wild things are much different. These fish have now for many decades been tank bred and are far removed (in terms of hardiness and resilience) from the wild strains.
Just make sure your new heater suits your tank and won't overheat :)

... and in the wild the water temp drops more slowly as they are in a far bigger body of water.
