well i dont know if anybody asked this question before but what are they ? or the better question would be what could you say about the fish ? they are really popular here (philippines) and also in S.East asian countries. They tend to be really expensive ( a friend of mine got one for around 15K or around 260USD ) got a huge bump on their forheads ( that i find really funny) and people tend to look for chinese characters on their scales hehe so what do you guys think about the fish ?

imo most people here dislike them as they are a hybird. what the hybird is of nobody has a clue, the only thing that people can come up with is that there is trimac in them hence the spots and the hump, from what I read alot of people belive that they are good luck because some guy did see the chineese symbols in his and played the lotto and won. so now it has become bad luck to destroy a poor grade flowerhorn and they are now choking the rivers and lakes of may asian countries. they are wicked mean, and don't play well with others.

i love them.. the store i work at has 2... i think they are wicked..

they seem pretty intelligent too... always moving gravel trying to get through the divider at each other...

i quite like them, i would get em, but dont have a tank big enough..

they are $29.99 Canadian at our store.. theyre about 6 or 7 inches and eat like 5 or 6 feeders a day

I dont think that your going to get a flowerhorn for $29, they must be low grade flowerhorns or some sort of trimac gone wrong, $250 is the avg price for a 6" FH

that would be my guess as well VIP they are probably pretty low grade FH's and wouldn't be worth the money spent on them.

but these are pretty cool.. nice coloring... who knows.. but i think theyre cool..

ive seen a few around here in the under $100 price range

Leck there are different grades of FH much like there are different grades of betta but the grades are all based on color and hump size. the top ones go for over 200 USD easy, average for over 100 USD and then everything else .

i havent really noticed a 'hump' on them..

so i guess they are 'low grade'...

i really want to buy one of them... but im guessing i will need at least a 55g to keep it happy

I'm not a fan.

I was in a LFS a few weeks ago and saw what was labeled as a "show" flowerhorn.
It was $799.

WOAW!! 799 dollars for a fish ?!?! COOL! well ive been reading around and read somewhere that a flower horn with a chinese symbol on the side reading prosperity ( considred really luck for chinese ) fetched a lot of money in HK and i mean a lot $$$$$ hehehe these fishes are wayyy to overrated for me.

BTW do you think they are smart because they have oversized noggins ? haha

I actually like flowerhorn alot.



I try not to judge a fish by the mistakes of people. I judge the fish by their beauty and their actions.

Flowerhorn are definately beautiful fish. Their territorial nature, squabbling, and "attitude" towards other fish makes them a ton of fun to keep. I'd some day like to breed these guys, but the high rate of culling reminiscant of my gold fish days is the only thing keeping me away.

I have to agree due to the high cull rate it is nice that they look like a normal fish, the only wicked shame about it all is that they belive it to be bad luck to destroy the culls and instead just release them into the wild to fend for themself and they are now starting to clog all of the waterways and kill off the native fish

I don't think any fish should be hated simply because is a hybrid.However,I woudn't like keeping one of these.To me they are the same as gold fish and blood parrots,although I agree with someone who said they all look normal,which is definately a plus.
I won't say don't get it or that I hate them,'cause that would be stupid.If you want to get it and have the dough,why not,it is your choise,and hell .....they are a lot better looking that other cichilids,hybrids or otherwise.
