hey people, looking for a floating plant for my new tank, in the process of creating a blackwater tank, problem is i think the lighting is a bit too bright so the tank only slightly looks stained, yet when i turn out the lights and its just natural light hitting the tank it looks proper blackwater, anyway... i was just wondering if anybody could name me a few floating plants, i've seen some before that i liked because they grew really long roots down into the tank but i dont know what they were :( just looking for something to dim the lighting down a touch so its not too bright in my tank :) something that would look nice too, btw its a 120 liter, and i have 2 24w lights in there and the ph is at 7.6 temp is at about 73F so anything that would work with this would be great! thanks

I love floating water wisteria

duck weed, riccia, amazon frog bit, although not floating plant there lotus bulbs witch will have the same effect if the leaves are left to reach the surface, there also loads of types of lilly's out there with the same effect, as said wisteria and indian fern are good to float as well, also i think blyxa japonica can float but dont quote me on that.

iv got some riccia and duck weed i could sell you if your interested

thanks for the replies :) hmm im gonna browse the internet and see whats about! thanks for the offer mike! but for the moment im just gonna look around see whats out there before i make my decision :D lol

I personally love the lillies, but does your tank have a lid or a cover? If so would that affect the growth of the lillies flowers (flowers bloom above the waters surface) or other floating plants?

yeah my tank has a cover, but it can quite easily be removed, its just the light strip sits along the middle of the tank then it has a dettatchable cover for infront of the light strip and behind it, so if i wanted i could just remove the 2 covers and have the light strip on its own across the middle that way the lilys could grow across the surface, and that might be a good idea actually because i've got a lily plant on order, red tiger lotus- nymphaea zenkeri

Ah nice choice! They look amazing when established, what other plants and/or fish do you have? Would love to see photos of your tank when you get the lotus in

yess i've seen some pics of amazing looking established ones :) well i had a massive bunch of hornwort, but it started to look messy and i began to not like it so i threw it out, i dont have any plants in my tank at the mo, im trying to decide what i want to put in there now, and as for fish i have 4 neon tetra and 13 harlequin rasbora!
