my tank is taking shape most plants are in place waiting n few more arrive .but was thinking getting few floating plants what does anyone think be a good choice . i saw that floating lettuce plant would that be ok ...i think im just going have few platys to start off with .
my other plants at bottom are amzon sort some java fern and anubias on wood and some vallis also have moss and riicia now trying grow on various things

Am pretty sure floating plants reduce light - slower growing but I could be wrong.

yeah i actually did think that so maybe be a idea scrud the floating plant idea just let other plants grow fill out maybe as once they do might be to mutch plants at top aswell

If you get the right plants you'll end up with tons of them hitting the surface anyway :p

Techen, does you're elodea take a lot of work?
I have some in my tank and it went berserk whilst I was away for the holidays and grew an extra foot long whilst sprouting out roots from all over too.
I find myself constantly trimming and remaking more plants from it but do find it hard work.
I wouldn't mind the growth so much as wanted some shelter from the lights on the surface, however find the roots sprouting from all over rather unsightly :/

Actually I think floating plants grow faster due to the intense amount of light they're getting. Water lettuce I hear can be a pain to get rid of once it goes in, since it grows so fast.
